My name is Eric Ricky Karorero
2. Where are you from?
I am from Burundi
3. Please describe the education system of your country.
it is divided in four categories: garden school, elementary school, high school and college ( three years of undergraduate school, and two years of graduate school)
4.Could you tell me some difference between American education and your home education?
There more resources in America schools than in my country. Students can experiment in lab what they learn during lectures. There are computer everywhere that student can uses, a big library with all the necessary for studying, there is also tutoring centers that are helpful for students having difficulties in classes.
5. How has your culture influenced your people/family values?
I don’t understand the question, be more specific.
6. What is the form of government in your country? My country is under the system of democracy. We have a president, a vice president, and ministers that are elected every five years. Of course there is a parliament with senators and deputes.
7. Tell me one thing that makes you proud of your country?
My country went through ten year of civil war, but since 2005 things have changed. The whole country is being rebuilt, and the economy is growing. I am proud of that, because Burundians stay strong though the hard time they went through, so now they are unified and they are rebuilding the country.
8. What places /sites would you recommend to tourists?
I would recommend tourist to visit Saga Nyanza, saga Resha, hotel club du Lac Tanganyika. All the places are next to the lake, and they are many activities that tourists can enjoy.
9. What festivals do you celebrate in your country?
We celebrate music festival, art festival, and we also have a break for religious ceremonies such as easter,..
10. What's the weather like in your hometown?
We have two seasons back home. The rainy season and the dry season.
11. What is a type of sport in your country?
We practice a lot of sport such as soccer rugby, volleyball, basketball, ping pong, tennis, judo, karate…, but the most famous is soccer.
12. What's a traditional food in your country?
The common food we eat back home are beans, Ndagala (fishes found in the Lake Tanganyika), Ubugari, Isombe.
13. What do most women do after they get married in your country?
(House wife, working?) . Back home, the woman keeps working though she is married. She takes care of the house when she comes back from work. Her most important duty after the weeding is to make sure that her husband and kids eat. Usually, every household has a servant that cleans the house, and cooks.
14. What will you do after you go back to your home country?
I want to start a company of construction, and use all the skills that I gained in America to develop infrastructures in my country. We need more building, bridge, and roads.
15. Where do you see yourself in fifteen years later?
I see myself back home, owning a company that operates in east Africa, and starting to build a place to stay for kid who leaves in streets.
16. Before we finish this interview do you have any word or advice for international students?
“Don’t ever forget where you are from”
17. Why don't you study for this degree in your home country and why did you choose the United States of America?
I chose the USA, because it is the most powerful country in the world, and graduating from here gives me more jobs opportunities.
18. What are your resources to pay your university charges?
I have two jobs on campus, but most of charges including my tuition is paid by my parents. I thank God for that, because I don’t have to worry about getting a financial aid or a loan.
19. Can you tell me some of your hobbies?
I like working out, singing, listening to music hanging out with friends, travelling, Eating, trying new things.
20. Will you go home during Christmas holiday? Why?
No, because it is too far, and I have only three weeks of break. I will go back home for the summer, because I will have three months to enjoy
